Emergency Drill Procedures

Fire:

  1. Fire alarm sounds and lights flash
  2. Students immediately evacuate the room in a calm, organized manner.
  3. Teacher closes the door. (starve the fire of oxygen)
  4. Teacher walks students to designated location on the field and distributes the student identification necklaces.
  5. Teacher verifies number of present students and writes missing students on Verification slip and bags missing student identification necklaces.
  6. Student runner takes Verification slip to Command Center.
  7. Teacher and students wait for “all clear” signal to return to class.

Quake:

  1. PA announcement of an earthquake event with instructions to duck and cover.
  2. When shaking stops (PA announcement it’s safe), students immediately evacuate the room.
  3. Teacher gathers the student identification necklaces, walks remaining students out of the room, and leaves the door open. (Open for search and rescue)
  4. Teacher walks students to designated location on the field and distributes the student identification necklaces.
  5. Teacher verifies number of present students and writes missing students on Verification slip and bags missing student identification necklaces.
  6. Student runner takes Verification slip to Command Center.
  7. Teacher and students wait for “all clear” signal to return to class.

Lockdown:

  1. PA announcement of a Lockdown Procedure.
  2. All people enter first available room that locks.
  3. Teacher locks door, students get on ground out of line-of-sight from windows as best as possible.
  4. Teacher takes roll, emails Karri (1302) with number present and identifies who is missing.
  5. If this is a drill, expect a tug on the door from the custodian.
  6. Remain sheltered until notified the danger has passed.
